Landscape Sketches: Sunshine through the clouds no. 6
This piece is part of a series of 24 exquisite lithographs in color reinterpreting Lichtenstein’s sketchbook of important landscape drawings from 1984 to 1985. The edition is unusually small for Pop Art. The democratization of art lead the Pop Art’s to create large mass production editions. Lichtenstein must have felt the intimate nature of these elegant jewel-like landscapes, which called for a smaller edition. Each piece provides a unique interpretation in the landscape genre. His classic bold colors and cubist compositions are rife with energy, vitality and light.
