Published by the Maeght Foundation, the Derrière le Miroir is an art ‘revue’ magazine-style folio that encouraged the creativity and artistic exploration of the most significant art makers of its time. Aime Maeght founded the Maeght Foundation in 1964 in Vence, in the South of France. Though many of the great sculptors of the day migrated there to conceive monumental works, integral to Maeght’s vision was the creation of a publication that would allow artists to work on paper with various print media. Thus, Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Braque, Calder and others worked with the finest printers such as Industries Graphiques, Claude Gaspari, Arte Adrien Maeght and Mourlot to publish Derrière le Miroir.
