This image was rendered by Chagall to celebrate his life and career as a graphic (printmaker) artist. It was the representing image for a retrospective of his graphic works (360 pieces) at the famed Nierendorf Galerie, named after Karl Nierendorf, the dealer and promoter of German Expressionist artists.The image depicts a popular circus act perfomed regularly at the well attended Madrano Circus, Paris. It was hand signed especially for Chagall's friend, a famous Hotelier and Chevalier of Music, Martin Riskin. It is one of a few signed examples aside from the edition of 1500. After a lithograph entitled "Rider on a Red Horse". Used as a poster for Nierendorf Galerie, Germany.
